Hurricanes add MacDougall to roster for upcoming season

May 9, 2018

Bethany MacDougall will be wearing the maroon, black and white of the Holland Hurricanes this fall when she joins the Holland College women’s soccer team.

The Charlottetown, PEI native currently plays for the Sherwood Parkdale Rangers but has spent time with Hillsborough United and Team PEI at the U14, U15, U16 and U18 levels; last season she was a member of the Charlottetown Rural AAA team.

“I think Holland College is a very good school with great academic programs,” shared MacDougall. “The new Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant program, starting in the fall, is what grabbed my attention towards Holland College.  Their Athletics Department has also been very successful in the past years and I would really like a chance to be a part of that and help contribute to the coming years.”

The 5’7” striker/midfielder completed perfect seasons in 2016 and 2017 with Charlottetown Rural as they claimed provincial championships, going undefeated in both years.

“We are very happy to add Bethany to our program,” shared head coach Kris McKinnon.  “She is strong and athletic and will be a constant threat in our attack.”

The scouting report on MacDougall is that her strengths are her speed and ability to recover when needed; she is also very teachable and willing to do what is asked of her from the coaching staff.

“I will be able to bring a positive attitude, work hard and use my speed,” said MacDougall when asked about the 2018 season with the Hurricanes.

Last season the Hurricanes had a 3-2-2 start to the season before going 1-3-1 in their final five games to miss out on the playoffs; the top four teams qualified with the ‘Canes finishing in a tie for fourth and missing due to a tiebreaker after their 4-5-3 regular season record.

The team has been focused during the off-season, using 2017 as motivation to get back to where the program has positioned themselves in the past.  The last time the ‘Canes finished outside the top four at the end of the regular season was 2006 when they finished in fifth with an identical record to last season.

The Hurricanes announced the commitment of Islander Kathrine McEwen to the roster last month and are expected to continue to announce new additions between now and the beginning of the ACAA regular season in September.
